Meet Brian Lewis

John Hall Electric has its very own Olympic gold medalist in Brian Lewis. A California native, Brian currently makes Portsmouth, Virginia his home. Lewis’ career highlights include the 2000 Olympic 4x100 relay gold medal; 1999 World Outdoor Champs gold medal (4x100); 3rd, 1998 Goodwill Games 100; and 1998 and 1999 U.S. Outdoor Champs 100m runner-up.

Lewis comes from a AAA baseball family, and played on the diamond through his 9th grade as MVP. Lewis ended up leaving the sport and decided to try out for the track team. At first, he wasn’t truly passionate about the sport until he attended a California state High School meet where he was “wowed” by stars Marion Jones and Ricky Carrigan. It was then that Lewis realized that this was one of his life’s passions. The rest is literally in the history books.

Lewis’ local history starts with a geographical transfer from a California college to Norfolk State University – primarily to work with former 100m world record holder, Steve Riddick. The decision paid off with medal after medal. Lewis says that it took one of his most disappointing moments (being part of the 4x100 squad that failed to finish its heat at the 1997 World Championships) to ultimately spur one of his strongest attributes: “(That loss)… made me work a lot harder… work on my weak points... all the while wanting to be consistent at 100m and win golds in the 100, 200 and relay.”

Lewis received that gold in Sydney – running a fast third leg for the U.S. 100m relay team.

Brian’s perseverance and dedication fully exemplify the values underlying the John Hall Electric work ethic. It is an honor to have Brian Lewis as part of our very own winning team.
